The effective diffusivity of cellular flows

چکیده
In the previous chapter we dealt with unidirectional flows. Now we turn to the slightly more complicated case of incompressible two-dimensional cellular flows. The velocity field can be obtained from a streamfunction ψ(x, y) according to our usual convention u = (u, v) = (−ψy, ψx). The domain is a periodic array of square cells, each with side , so that the streamfunction has the periodicity ψ(x + m , y + n ) = ψ(x, y) where m and n are integers. We use the notation

A New Model for Prediction of Heat Eddy Diffusivity in Pipe Expansion Turbulent Flows
A new model to calculate heat eddy diffusivity in separating and reattaching flows based on modification of constant Prt is proposed. This modification is made using an empirical correlation between maximum Nusselt number and entrance Reynolds number. The model includes both the simplicity of Prt=0.9 assumption and the accuracy of two-equation heat-transfer models. Furthermore, an appropriate l...
متن کاملConvection-Enhanced Diffusion for Random Flows
We analyze the effective diffusivity of a passive scalar in a two-dimensional, steady, incompressible random flow that has mean zero and a stationary stream function. We show that in the limit of small diffusivity or large Peclet number, with convection dominating, there is substantial enhancement of the effective diffusivity. Our analysis is based on some new variational principles for convect...
متن کاملConvection Enhanced Diffusion for Periodic Flows
This paper studies the influence of convection by periodic or cellular flows on the effective diffusivity of a passive scalar transported by the fluid when the molecular diffusivity is small. The flows are generated by two-dimensional, steady, divergence-free, periodic velocity fields.
متن کاملMaximal Effective Diffusivity for Time-Periodic Incompressible Fluid Flows
In this paper we establish conditions for the maximal, Pe, behavior of the effective diffusivity in time-periodic incompressible velocity fields for both the Pe oc and Pe 0 limits. Using ergodic theory, these conditions can be interpreted in terms of the Lagrangian time averages of the velocity. We reinterpret the maximal effective diffusivity conditions in terms of a Poincar6 map of the veloci...

In this work, we carry out self –similar solutions of viscous-resistive accretion flows around a magnetized compact object. We consider an axi-symmetric, rotating, isothermal steady accretion flow, which contains a poloidal magnetic field of the central star. The dominant mechanism of energy dissipation is assumed to be the turbulence viscosity and magnetic diffusivity due to the magnetic field...
